Renewable Energy Systems Design

Mechanical design services for solar thermal systems and ground-coupled heat pump systems and integration with solar photovoltaic, wind energy, and other renewable energy systems.

We provide full design service for solar thermal systems or integrate the mechanical system with solar thermal designs by others.

Mechanical systems design is integrated with solar photovoltaic, wind energy, and other renewable energy systems so that systems and controls are compatible.  Provide assistance to Owners and Electrical Engineers and others with estimation of the building electrical requirement and design goals for fraction provided by renewables.

We work closely with commissioning agents and energy modelers to help optimize the integrated results of the project.  Working with commissioning greatly improves the speed with which a building and its systems are brought to full operational status so that maintenance personnel are not burdened with finishing the construction.  Integrating commissioning into the project also helps the contractors improve their efficiency and profitability by catching construction issues early.  Working with energy modeling can create a building that is designed from the beginning to be optimized for construction cost and energy and other operating costs.

Life-cycle studies help our clients select a design using not only first-cost (construction cost) criteria, but also weighted maintenance, energy, and equipment replacement costs over the life of the building.  The result is a building matched to the client’s needs in terms of a balance between initial, construction costs and the long-term operating cost of the building.  A Triple-bottom line evaluation can be added to evaluate the sustainability and community impacts as well.
